Gorefield Primary Academy celebrates positive Ofsted report
Gorefield Primary Academy is celebrating a positive Ofsted inspection which found consistent strength across the school, with every area meeting the expected standard and its early years provision achieving the higher ‘Strong Standard’. Safeguarding standards were also met.
The inspection, which took place on 6 and 7 October 2026, recognised the progress the school has made following a challenging period of staffing instability. Inspectors found that staffing is now more settled, the curriculum has been thoroughly reviewed and improved, and leaders have established clear expectations and strengthened the quality of provision for pupils and staff.
Early years was highlighted as a particular strength. Inspectors described the provision as ‘very well considered’, with an ambitious curriculum, highly personalised teaching and a calm, happy and purposeful environment. They found that staff make effective use of children’s experiences to develop language, independence and practical skills while ensuring secure foundations in the basics.
The report also gives a positive picture of pupils’ experience of Gorefield, describing the school as a ‘welcoming and caring place’ where pupils feel safe, valued and included. Pupils spoke enthusiastically about their learning and appreciate the additional help they receive when they find something difficult. Inspectors also recognised pupils’ enjoyment of clubs, visits and opportunities to take on responsibility within the school.
The inspection recognised the leadership of co-headteachers Aimee Garner and Nancy Irvine, who took up their roles in January 2024. Staff told inspectors they appreciated the improvements made to the school’s organisation and ways of working and expressed pride in the school and its achievements.
Jonathan Lewis, Chief Executive Officer of the Diamond Learning Partnership Trust, said:
“This is a really positive report for Gorefield and reflects just how far the school has come. Miss Garner and Mrs Irvine, together with the whole staff team, have worked incredibly hard through some significant challenges to create a more settled, ambitious and positive school.
“I am particularly pleased to see the strength of our early years provision recognised. Giving children the very best possible start has been a real priority for the school and the Trust, and achieving the Strong Standard is a considerable achievement.
“Most importantly, the report reflects what our children experience every day: a small, caring school where pupils feel safe, valued and included. We know there is still more to do, but Miss Garner and Mrs Irvine have a very clear understanding of the next steps and have the full support of the Trust as they continue this work.”
Ofsted identified further work to ensure that recent improvements to teaching are consistently embedded, including the precise use of information about pupils’ individual needs, modelling and checking understanding, and maintaining pupils’ attention and engagement. The school and Trust are already focused on these priorities as the next stage of Gorefield’s improvement.
